My Heart Needs a Lil Sunshine

Updated: Jul 11, 2019

A week-long break back home in Moalboal was just what I needed to clear my head and my heart and face whatever is up ahead with an optimistic mindset.

I had planned this break since last year because my mom would be celebrating her 65th birthday and retirement on September 11, and I wanted to be there for her on her very special day.

With my present work situation aside, the whole experience had been a memorable adventure right from the start.

I Missed My Flight (For the First Time Ever!)

I bought a two-way ticket last February for only P3500, but I couldn't remember for the life of me why I went with an early AF schedule.

My flight back to Cebu was at 5:30 a.m. and not wanting to miss it, I didn't sleep the whole time. Well, guess what? LOL, I missed it nonetheless.

I guess the greatest lesson that I learned here was that online check-in only works if you have at least an hour ahead of your flight. I had absolutely no fucking clue it works that way so bummer.

Rebooking my ticket would cost more because of the rebooking charge so I just bought a new one online, instead of waiting forever at the CebuPac counters.

The down side? It was still way more expensive at P4500 for a one-way flight but I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. I was still grateful that I get to go home on the same day.

Kokodine, Now KKD, Has Grown Up

Yep. The humble carenderia that I used to eat in a few years ago is now a full-pledged adult resto that's nestled right beside the big guns and their food selection is still as amazing and delicious as I remembered.

I'm not sure if they did the same back then but I think they also cater late-night drinks and what-not for those who want to chill and party or something.

Bargain-Hunting in Carbon Market

On an early Sunday morning right after my first night back in Cebu, my mom and I decided to go to Aizelym near Carbon Market to buy some cheap party supplies.

If you have no idea what/where Carbon Market is, it's basically this local market located right across USJR that is teeming with cheap everything - from produce to flowers to fish and whatever it is under the sun, I think you can prolly find it here.

As distinctly amazing as the place is, Carbon Market is also infamous for unsavory facts like the rampant pickpocket incidents that happen in the area.

If you happen to be on the hunt for some cheap supplies and decide to check out the place, you better dress low-key AF and not be maarte coz come on, it's Carbon Market.

Haggling, pushing through throngs of sweaty people, and holding your bag for dear life are usually the common scenes here so if they are not your cup of tea, I guess it's better if you just check out the mall.

Personally, I find the place very interesting to check out on days when I don't have anything on my mind. Otherwise, I also try to avoid it like the plague because traffic in the area can get very decongested, it's very crowded, and everything can really get on your nerves.

Of course, for genuine local experience, this place is definitely one for the book.

3 New Puppies!

After a two-hour drive down south, I finally arrived home in Moalboal and greeted by bouncing puppies. How awesome was that?

However, I was horrified when I found out that my mom named them Small, Medium, and Large coz I mean, who names dogs like that? LOL.

Anyhoo, it was really sad that the smallest puppy passed away on my third day back home. He had always been sleeping and lethargic while the other two were super hyper.

My mom said it has prolly something to do with him being the runt of the litter. As for the other two, they are turning almost two months by now and my mom decided to change their names.

The bigger puppy is the cuddlier of the two and always wanted to sleep on my lap, on my side, or on my laptop. He's also a water puppy that absolutely loves being bathed or getting wet.

We let them stay outside with their mom and guess what? I found him walking leisurely in the rain one morning, a cute little fur ball that was intentionally getting itself drenched, while his brother in mom slept comfortably away in the crate.

La Tegola - Marina Cucina Italiana

My favorite beach-side resto in Moalboal never disappoints. they have the most amazing pizza selection and their pasta dishes are always to-die for. Hell, all their food options are awesome.

It was the first time that I brought my dog Chumchum with me and it was really lovely to see that pets are allowed inside. I even met the owner and he played with Chumchum for a bit.

What I really love about the place aside from the food is the amazing view of the sea while I chill without worrying about staying too long or whatever.

I guess that's one thing that I miss about living in the province - the slow-paced lifestyle that lets you truly enjoy the moment.

Just a short walk from La Tegola is a quaint little cove of shops and bars along the Panagsama Beach, the perfect option if you're a night-life junkie or just want to enjoy a bottle of beer.

So anyhoo, I think I should end this post here before it gets too long. Hehe. It's almost 3 a.m., I have a dentist appointment at 11, and things to do before the day ends. Toodles.
