Going from Crypto to Metaverse in 3.5

If you asked me five years ago where I would see myself several years later, I would never have imagined I would end up in the blockchain space dealing with cryptocurrencies and the metaverse on an almost day-to-day basis.
For sure, I would have replied something along the lines of "I don't know" because frankly, I was really lost for a while - I had no idea what I wanted in life, I had no clue what I was doing, and I was basically just hustling to exist at the moment.
I won't pretend I have life figured out by now, but I'm definitely in a better space compared to before. So going back to blockchain, yep, I think I'm gonna be here for the foreseeable future because honestly, I love this niche. Even though there is a lot that I don't understand, I'm learning at every point, and I'm so down for that.
Speaking of learning, these past few weeks have been nothing but learning and being amazed and learning more about the metaverse - and I'm all here for it.
If you've read my previous post, you'll know that I have resigned from my old job, which was at a Philippine-based cryptocurrency exchange. That experience jumpstarted the blockchain chapter of my life, and today, I am now connected with a Vietnam-based Southeast Asian venture builder that focuses on - drumroll please - the metaverse.
It's funny because I've only been with my current company for less than two months and then out of the blue, Facebook announced they're changing their company name to Meta, an ode to its metaverse aspirations.
Suddenly, everyone is talking about the "metaverse". It's like from zero to 60 in 3.5, it has become the hottest buzzword in the space, as well as in mainstream media.
Learning more about it now has definitely taken on an urgent and pressing vibe. I know we gotta take advantage of the momentum, and if I'm expected to write an article about it, I should be equipped with a fundamental understanding of it at the very least. Not gonna lie - it's very exciting but also a lot to take in.
So yeah, this post won't be about the metaverse per se (although I'm thinking about writing more posts about all the things I've learned so far), but just a mini update on what I'm up to now and what's keeping me busy.
2022 Travel Plans
Professional life aside, things are okay. I'm getting restless just staying at home so I'm definitely looking into travelling again next year. Since my job is fully remote, my plan is to stay in another country for a month at least.
Isn't it crazy how life has a way of sorting out at such an odd timing? I mean two years ago when I was with my ex, I would have wanted to visit him in the US, but I couldn't afford it financially and because of my job schedule.
All other things have finally aligned now but on the flip side, Covid, travel restrictions, and the fact that we broke up happened. LOL. So much for that.
Anyhoo, I plan on going back to Bangkok, Thailand maybe in April of next year, and staying there for a month. I really hope things are better by then in terms of Covid and travel restrictions.
After Thailand, I'm thinking of checking out Seoul, South Korea next. I would have wanted to go to Japan but it's definitely more expensive and I honestly can't decide which part of the country I want to visit first. LOL. I hate having to choose so I'm gonna avoid that for now.
In between, maybe I'll visit Singapore again because that's always a happy place for me. It will also be nice to visit Vietnam and Cambodia, the two places I was about to go to right before Covid happened, but we'll see.
In the latter part of next year, I'm thinking of checking out a country beyond Asia, and while that sounds nice, getting a Visa sounds exhausting, so not sure about that yet.
Life at Home
Travel plans aside, I think I need to get a new laptop. My old Macbook Pro 2017 has been acting up a lot, and it's getting to a point where it's frustrating and annoying.
As a writer, I'm basically just writing and researching so I don't need hard-hitting apps like Adobe, just several browsers opened all at once while I trawl different sources.
For some reason, my MBP won't have any of that. LOL. It overheats easily, slows down when that happens, and I have to close all my browsers and restart. It's annoying as hell.
At first, I considered going for a custom-built desktop but I have no idea about building computers and I'm also not used to Windows. iMac and Mac Mini were other options I was considering but since I have travel plans, my ex pointed out a new Macbook Pro would be better.
Fair point, so I guess I'll be getting a new Macbook Pro soon. I hope they slash down the price as the holidays near and because of the fact that the newest models are already out. That would be really neat. 🤞🤞
Lastly, I'm looking forward to completing my Covid vaccine. I'm scheduled to get my second Astra Zeneca dose on the last week of November and hopefully, the world gets Covid under control by the year-end.
That's all for now on my end. See you in my next post.
